Recreating PS1 Aesthetics With Free Assets In Your UE4 Horror Game

Check out Roost, an upcoming Unreal Engine 4-based paranormal detective exploration game set in a remote town lost to time, and grab a big pack of free authentic PS1-style shaders & 3D assets.

Roost is a new PS1-style paranormal detective game, centered mainly on exploration and atmosphere in a remote town, lost to time. It's a personal project of Jack Chapman, Principal Level Designer at Auroch Digital with previous experience in various design roles in such well-known game development studios as Supermassive Games and PlayStation London Studio.

Recently, Jack Chapman has been teasing he's experimenting with setting up an authentic-looking PS1-era game, which received the name Roost and is said to be focused on investigating paranormal activities:

Roost is built with the Horror Engine plug-in, which is a complete project for designing horror games, a collection of commercially usable retro 3D assets, and an Unreal Engine 4 shaders pack with the most common effects you'd want for this kind of game. Apparently, this pack is only compatible with Unreal Engine 4, as Unreal Engine 5 has significantly changed the pipelines without providing any relevant documentation, so keep that in mind if you're going to use these resources in your own projects.

While Roost is still in the early stage of development, Jack Chapman highly encourages everyone to follow the game's progress on his X/Twitter account, YouTube, and TikTok.
